About the World Waqf Fund

A Permanent Endowment for a More Resilient Future

The World Waqf Fund is designed as a general-purpose flagship capital vehicle stewarded by the Global Waqf Alliance. Its purpose is to mobilise and deploy Shari’ah-compliant waqf capital towards development priorities that require flexible, cross-sector support and long-term institutional investment.

While specialised waqf funds focus on defined sectors, the World Waqf Fund addresses the development opportunities that sit between them. It seeks to connect capital, institutions, communities and development initiatives through a common framework of responsible investment, endowment preservation and measurable public benefit

Our Vision

To help build a globally connected, sustainable and resilient waqf ecosystem that preserves endowed wealth and generates lasting social, economic and institutional benefits for present and future generations.

Our Mission

To mobilise, preserve and deploy permanent waqf capital through Shari’ah-compliant investments, catalytic seed funding, cross-sector collaboration and institutional capacity development.

Our Objectives
  • Mobilise long-term waqf capital from institutional and individual contributors.

  • Support cross-sector development initiatives that address interconnected community needs.

  • Strengthen emerging national waqf sectors through seed capital and institutional development.

  • Co-invest with specialised waqf funds and development partners.

  • Support the governance, standards implementation and international cooperation functions of the Global Waqf Alliance.

  • Preserve the waqf corpus while directing investment returns towards approved public-benefit objectives.

  • Promote transparency, sound governance, responsible investment and accountability.

Our Institutional Stewardship

The World Waqf Fund is designed to operate under the stewardship of the Global Waqf Alliance, with governance through a Mutawalli Board, dedicated Shari’ah oversight and administrative support through the Alliance Secretariat.

The Fund's framework provides for coordination with sector-specific waqf funds and other development institutions to ensure that capital deployment complements wider development objectives.
