Waqf has long served as a means of sustaining education, healthcare, social welfare, community development and other public-benefit initiatives. The World Waqf Fund seeks to build on this tradition through a coordinated, professionally governed and impact-oriented approach to waqf capital.
Designed to complement sector-specific waqf funds, the Fund focuses on opportunities that cross traditional sector boundaries, emerging national waqf ecosystems that need seed capital, and the institutional infrastructure required to strengthen the global waqf sector.
“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed that grows seven ears; in every ear are a hundred grains.” Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:261
Our founding inspiration is to direct capital towards initiatives where one act of endowment can generate benefits that multiply across communities, sectors and generations.
Our Four Strategic Priorities
01. Cross-Sector Development
Support integrated initiatives addressing interconnected development challenges, including food, water, energy, healthcare, education and community resilience.
02. Emerging Waqf Ecosystems
Provide catalytic seed capital to help developing national waqf sectors strengthen governance, legislation, institutional capacity and digital infrastructure.
03. Strategic Co-Investment
Work alongside specialised waqf funds, governments, development institutions and strategic partners to support initiatives with shared development objectives.
04. Institutional Strengthening
Support the governance, standards implementation and cross-border cooperation required for a sustainable global waqf ecosystem.
1. Mobilise Waqf Capital
Engage governments, institutional waqif, philanthropic foundations, corporations and individual contributors in building a permanent endowment.
2. Appraise Development Opportunities
Evaluate proposals according to catalytic potential, cross-sector value, geographic equity, alignment with development priorities and Shari’ah requirements.
3. Deploy Capital Responsibly
Allocate eligible capital and investment returns to approved development initiatives, seed funding, co-investments and permitted institutional support.
4. Preserve and Grow the Endowment
Protect the waqf corpus, reinvest a minimum share of annual usufruct and report on financial performance and development outcomes.
Bridging Institutional Liquidity with Ethical, High-Impact Asset Creation.
We facilitate the transformation of traditional endowment assets into modern, bankable investments that drive sustainable development across emerging markets.
World Waqf Fund invites sovereign entities, institutional investors, and development leaders to review our participation structures and project pipeline.
